October 28, 2009— Vista Santa Monica, the new exhibition at the Annenberg Community Beach House, showcases artwork that captures
the essence of Santa Monica. Pieces range from conceptual to nostalgic to
fantastical… with all expanding upon the rich stories of life in the City by
the Sea.
Artists
include long-time residents who have helped shape the vibrant cultural
landscape that Santa Monica enjoys. Featured artists include Betty Sheinbaum, a long-time Santa
Monica resident who has been painting for over 40 years; Daniel Alonzo, a Santa Monica resident whose mural “A Whale of a
Mural” at the underpass at 4th Street along Ocean Park Blvd has
become a local icon; and Elena Allen, a Santa Monican who has been painting our landscapes for 40
years;
and Elena Mary Siff, whose work can be found in the Museum of Modern
Art collection and the Wichita Art Museum.
Vista Santa Monica is a part of Beach=Culture,
an ongoing series of cultural programs at the Annenberg Community Beach House
produced in conjunction with the City of Santa Monica’s Cultural Affairs
Division. Intimate concerts, readings, and lectures convey the rich history of
the Beach House site and Santa Monica’s beach in general.
Vista Santa Monica will be on display
through April 2010. For information and hours on the exhibition, please visit
the Annenberg Community Beach House online at http://www.annenbergbeachhouse.com.
For information on the collection, please contact Malina Moore, Public Art

Community Beach House is made

recommendation of collector and philanthropist Wallis Annenberg, and in
partnership with California State Parks and the City of Santa Monica.
