Contact: Deputy Chief Kent Coble, 310.458.8666

Santa Monica Fire Department officials, firefighters, and executives from Kessler, HUB and Fireman’s Fund will come together for a special public event where the grant package will be presented:

When: Wednesday February 1, 2012, 10:30 a.m.
Where: Fire Station 2, 222 Hollister Av Santa Monica, CA

In the fire service, saving lives is only part of the job. Firefighters spend countless hours training and honing their skills to ensure they are prepared for any emergency.

The Santa Monica Fire Department is committed to comprehensive on-going training for its rescuers. Kessler, a division of HUB International and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company are partnering to donate $5,045 to the Santa Monica Fire Department to purchase new video equipment.

Specifically, the grant will provide a video camera, tripod, wireless microphones, a computer and video editing software to allow the department to create their own training videos. The content will cover procedures specific to the department including ladder rescues, forcible entry techniques and other specialized drills.

“Firefighters put themselves in danger to protect the city every day,” said Deputy Chief Bruce Davis. “It’s critical they have the proper training to do their jobs safely. The result is a community whose residents and property are better protected.”

The grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company. The program is designed to provide needed equipment, training and educational tools to local fire department and burn prevention organizations. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has issued grants to more than 1,800 different organizations totaling more than $29 million. Independent insurance agencies and brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund products, like HUB International, are able to direct these grants to support the fire service.

Through this program, HUB International has directed over $600,000 in grants to fire departments nationwide. This is Kessler’s second grant to Santa Monica Fire Department.

“Ensuring firefighters have the latest training is critical to the safety of the people in Santa Monica,” said Kenneth Kessler of Kessler. “We’re proud to be able to help in such a meaningful way, knowing so many people will ultimately benefit.”
