| In order to effectively promote green building practices in Santa Monica,
several programs, services and resources are available. Many more are proposed
and will be implemented soon. Visit the

building practices in your own project. |
| The
Green Building Website contains information on Santa Monica’s green
building requirements and guidelines. The guidelines illustrate sounds green building
practices and technologies that can be applied in a variety of projects. It also
includes an interactive Design Advisor that outlines required and recommended
measures based on the type of building selected.

Code Compliance Facilitation |
| In cases where project designs include innovative sustainable building
technologies where plan check approval is in question, we will complete a preliminary
investigation of strategies to meet code requirements. Applicants should contact the
Green Building Program Advisor with the proposed green building measure to initiate
the investigative process. |

Pre-submittal Review |
| All projects are entitled to a pre-submittal review of preliminary plans.
Prior to formal building permit application all departments involved in the formal
plan check process will review early-stage building plans and provide feedback on
potential compliance issues. Any potential issues identified by the various reviewers
are communicated to project representatives during a one-hour review meeting. Green
building code compliance is one of the areas reviewed. |

Green Design Review |
| All projects are invited to participate in a green building plan review.
The City’s Green Building Program Advisor will provide guidance on green building
measures and resources that may benefit the project. |

| All qualifying projects are checked for compliance with the Green Building Code during
