Water
Santa Monica imports 90% of its water from Northern California and the Colorado River - resources stretched thin by climate change and the regions increasing population. Pumping water long distances consumes large amounts of electricity, generated from the burning of coal or natural gas, which damages wildlife habitats and costs billions of dollars annually. The City has a goal to reduce residential and commercial water use 20% by 2010.  Saving water not only helps the community and reduces your monthly water bills, it also reduces pollution.
Take the 20 Gallon Challenge! Save Water Now
Everyone saving 20 gallons per day would do the trick
The City of Santa Monica is joining sister water agencies across the southland in promoting the “20 Gallon Challenge.”  The “challenge” is a call to action, in the driest year on record, for individuals to save 20 gallons of water each day by implementing water saving strategies for both indoor and outdoor water use.  Take the challenge and begin saving water now.
Business/Commercial Challenge Information
